I've been a paraplegic for 14 years now and my
husband and I have travelled to many different places; we've stayed in motels
and hotels and homes and villas and seen a variety of what owners and
managers call accessible. I am happy to say that the hosts of
"Villa Tranquility" in Moraira in the Costa Blanca region of Spain
have done it right.
While the surrounding terrain is very hilly
and not suitable for wheelchairs, the inside of the home, the deck, pool and
car areas of this vacation villa are well thought out and have taken into
account the challenges of life in a chair. No bumpy thresholds to deal
with, nice wide halls and doorways, and a shower and pool that most chair
users will be able to use. Additionally, a level area for your vehicle
makes entry into and out of your mode of transportation easy to accomplish.
While power beds that can raise and lower
head and feet areas are becoming more common for home use this is the first
time I have seen them in a rental. We have one at home and it was great to be
able to get my feet up during the day when I needed to. I could still
sit up and read without having to find pillows galore to sit up against.
The powered recliners were also a nice treat
and something we may consider adding to our home now that we've had a chance
to try them out. For us this was a really great way to test something
out before making the purchase.
For those of you mobility challenged
individuals reluctant to travel because of the unreliability of
'accessible" labels, not to worry, in Casa Tranquility you have found a
place that has wonderful views, a gorgeous surrounding and proximity to a
wealth of Spanish history and beautiful ocean beaches, while providing the
environment you need to get on day to day, whether at home or away. If
you want to stay at home and enjoy the pool, it's there. Or if you
prefer the beach, there are accessible ones a short distance away; the choice
is yours and you won't be disappointed. This villa met all our needs and
provided an atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy our hard earned leisure
time.
We'll be back. They've done a great job and
it wouldn't matter if I regained the ability to walk tomorrow, we'd still
visit this villa. They've done a terrific job of renovating a home with
a wonderful view and perspective of the surrounding area. We are
honestly caught between wanting to tell everyone about this terrific place and
wanting to keep a secret to ensure we can book again next year.
Sincerely
Rita and David
